North Sea KSB pump seal fully refurbished

The mechanical seal from a KSB submersible pump handling seawater was inspected, restored and return offshore swiftly, as the client requested.

Client challenge

Rather than go back to the pump OEM, our client asked NASH to inspect and restore proprietary parts of a KSB submersible pump seal with a faster turnaround time and more competitive pricing than the OEM could provide.

Our response

Service history and duty details were not available. Some components were also missing. The seal had already been stripped down. No conclusive reason for failure was given.

NASH’s inspection team found light face wear. Both seal rings were also chipped on their edges, probably caused by a combination of shock during operation and impact damage during/after seal removal.

Work scope: –

  • Proprietary parts were replaced or repaired as required

Benefits

  • The client did not have to go back to the pump OEM
  • Costs were more competitive than the OEM’s
  • A rapid turnaround time was achieved
