24-hour response, analysis and advice

Restoring output on a Netzsch bead mill within 24-hours of an EagleBurgmann mechanical seal failure with NASH’s guaranteed next-day assessment, repair and delivery service

Client challenge

After three years of trouble-free running, a coatings manufacturer experienced a sudden Netzsch LMZ Bead Mill EagleBurgmann MR1SF5-125 double seal unit failure that needed to be corrected urgently.

Working with Netzsch Mastermix’s own team, NASH not only delivered an exchange mechanical seal unit within a day but also pinpointed and helped to eliminate future product problems.

Our response

Our immediate response was to:

  • Supply an exchange seal unit by guaranteed next day early morning delivery
  • However, once the damaged seal was returned to NASH for assessment and repair, our team also detected: –
    • Heavy internal product contamination
    • Badly worn seal faces
    • Heat-damaged o-rings

We also confirmed that:

  • Production problems resulted in seal system pressures being exceeded
  • Product entered the seal as a result
  • Product contamination led to outboard seal failure and barrier fluid leaking to atmosphere

To compound matters:

  • The client had isolated the seal system pressure switch to continue running the mill
  • The seal was allowed to run dry, resulting in heavily worn faces and damaged o-rings

Benefits

  • NASH ensured Netzsch Mastermix were able to restore their client’s production in 24-hours
  • We identified the failure causes
  • Our team made recommendations on how to operate the mill more effectively
